Kaan Urgancıoğlu was born on May 9th, 1981, in Izmir, Turkey. He is the eldest son of the Urgancıoğlu family. He completed his secondary studies at Izmir Private Turkish College and high school at an American College. In the year 2000, he settled in the city of Istanbul to study Capital Markets and Stock Exchange at Marmara University, where he also received theater education.
In 2002, he interrupted his university education when he started filmmaking, obtaining the role of leading actor in the television series "Karaoğlan", having been recommended by his family friend Demet Akbağ.
Producer Abdullah Oğuz was searching for a handsome, horse-riding and unknown face for the main role of this serie, selecting Kaan Urgancıoğlu, and allowing him taking the first step in his career.
"Karaoğlan" had a great reception by the public, facilitating Kaan to be part of nine additional series and films, before culminating his professional university career in 2007.
In the period 2006 - 2007, he attended acting workshops at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York.
By 2009 - 2011, he got his master's degree from Kadir Has University Film and Drama Department. His meeting with the actor, director and producer Çetin Sarıkartal was the turning point of his acting life.
Between 2015 - 2017 he gained great international popularity for being one of the protagonists of the series Kara Sevda, in which he played Emir Kozcuoglu, a role for which he won the "Best Supporting Actor" award by Ayaklı Newspaper Awards. The series became a milestone in Turkish television history by being the first Turkish series to be awarded the prestigious Emmy Awards for "Best Telenovela", among other national and international awards.
From 2018, Kaan Urgancıoğlu has participated in various successful series and movies, such as Jack Ryan, Baron 2, In good hands, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, and Yargi.
On February 6 2023, a strong 7.8 magnitude Richter earthquake struck the countries of Turkey and Syria, followed by a series of powerful aftershocks. Several earthquakes occurred later, during the month of February. The catastrophe left severe structural damage and caused the loss of tens of miles of lives.
Turkish celebrities, including Kaan Urgancıoğlu, took part in the "Turkey Has One Heart" charity marathon, organized by multiple TV and radio stations, to raise funds for the victims.
On june 19 2023, Kaan contracted civil marriage with his partner Burku Denizer at the Turkish General Consulate in Athens, Greece.
On November 20 2023, Yargi became the second Turkish serie to be awarded with the International Emmy Award for "Best Telenovela". In this serie, Kaan Urgancıoğlu participated as the main character Ilgaz Kaya.
On December 9 2023, Kaan Urgancıoğlu became father for the first time, with the born of his son Ardiç. His wife Burcu Denizer had a natural childbirth.
